Red skin, broken capillaries, rosacea
The exact cause of excessive redness of the skin is unknown. It is often a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. It most commonly occurs in light-haired individuals with fair-skin and blue-eyes.
Red skin can also be accompanied by small, red, pus-filled bumps as well as dry, red and irritated eyelids. In some cases, it can appear on the nose, which may become red and enlarged over time. It is often confused with other skin irregularities such as acne or natural blushing.
Rosacea is characterized by intense redness of the skin on the face with visible (broken) blood vessels or capillaries. It may periodically disappear and reappear.
Broken capillaries are thin blood vessels that appear on the face, legs and chest. They are caused by damage to the skin due to irritation, inflammation or repeated and excessive sun exposure.
In addition to genetic predisposition, the following factors have the greatest impact on skin health: exposure to UV radiation (excessive sunbathing, tanning beds), chemical toxins, smoking, alcohol, poor diet, insufficient fluid intake, lack of rest, stress and aging.
